USPS® Eclipse Stamp Transforms When You Touch It

To honor the first solar eclipse in the contiguous Unites States since 1979, the USPS announced that they are releasing a first-of-its-kind stamp with special effects. It will be the first to feature thermochromic ink, which gives the stamp a unique transformative quality. The stamp initially features a photograph of a total solar eclipse by astrophysicist Fred Espenak. When you touch it, the heat from your fingers will reveal an underlying image of the Moon, also photographed by Espenak. The back of the stamp pane even provides a map of the upcoming August 21 eclipse path along with times that it may be visible in certain locations.

The Total Eclipse of the Sun stamp is being issued nationwide as a Forever stamp on June 20, but you can pre-order the stamp in early June at USPS.com/store. The Forever stamp is always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.
