The USPS understands that mobile technology capabilities are an important factor in the future of mail delivery.  With the IMpb barcode requirement now in place (that allows shippers to monitor the delivery process every step of the way) tracking abilities with the mail carrier are also improving. As this article from CBS News informs us, new GPS devices will be available to mail carriers as an extra safety measure for their personal safety but it also sets up the ability to provide virtually real-time notifications tool. After all, there were more than 400 assaults on postal workers nationwide in 2014, up to nine percent in the past five years. That same year, dogs attacked carriers more than 5,700 times. The more protection for our postal workers, the better!
