Improved Email For USPS Tracking Notifications

Author: Pat Mango, Manager, Postal Relations

The Postal Service is improving the tracking notifications that customers receive by email. The emails feature a new, user-friendly design that uses less text and more visuals. The emails also include icons that allow customers to quickly see when:

  • A package is scheduled for delivery
  • Updates are available for the expected delivery date and time
  • A package is delivered
  • A package is available for pickup at a USPS location
  • There are alerts or other updates that require a customer’s attention

To start receiving emails, customers should go to and enter a valid tracking number and email address.

The enhanced notifications are part of the Postal Service’s efforts to improve customers’ experiences and make it easier for them to track their mail and packages.

Does email notification apply only to PACKAGES - not to CERTIFIED envelopes?

Hi! The email notification is available to all USPS shipping products that automatically include tracking. This includes extra services that come with tracking. It does not include First Class Mail unless you add an Extra Service that includes Delivery Confirmation. So while it doesn't explicitly say it works for Certified Mail, it appears to me like it will. The FAQs page here has more information: Hope this helps!
