Minor Adjustments to Some USPSĀ® Rates in August

July 1, 2016

The Postal Regulatory Commission has authorized the United States Postal Service (USPS®) to increase prices for a limited number of market dominant products within the First-Class Mail® Parcel class. The increase will be effective August 28, but not to worry as it only applies to First Class Mail parcels weighing between 1-3 ounces.

The price increase was approved to correct an anomaly within First-Class Mail Parcels in January. For the most part, this price adjustment will mostly impact parties who ship lightweight goods.

One of the major merchants that have been impacted is online giant eBay™. The company announced that as a result of the increase, new rates will go into effect on August 28, 2016. eBay has noted that customers can anticipate an increase in USPS rates, to be reflected as follows:

1-3oz First Class Mail Parcel Retail:
Currently $2.45
Proposed $2.62

1-3oz First Class Package Service via eBay labels:
Currently $2.45
Proposed $2.60

eBay has noted that the company will be negotiating with the USPS to offer the lowest rates possible, and will continue to provide discounted rates via eBay labels as much as possible. See the charts below for details of the August 2016 rate adjustment.
